Lynn Taitt (R.I.P.) tribute special – January 20th podcast
Roots Rock Rebel
Wednesday, January 20, 2010
10pm-12am
CKUT, 90.3FM, Montreal!
On January 20th, 2010, we received the sad news that legendary guitarist Lynn Taitt had passed away at his home just outside of Montreal. Lynn was a foundational artist in reggae music, often credited with creating many of the "bubbling" guitar styles that came to define rocksteady and reggae music. His guitar stylings can be found on many Jamaican classics, including recordings with the Skatalites, the Baba Brooks Band, and hisown band, Lynn Taitt and the Jets. He had been suffering from blood cancer for a few years, so his passing to a better place may come as a relief to some.
I'm happy that Lynn's own voice graced the airwaves on Roots Rock Rebelwhen we had him on for a very memorable interview during Black History Month in February 2007.
To pay tribute to Lynn Taitt on the show this week, we had the one and only Mossman come into the studio to select most of our playlist. Mossman was a good friend and collaborator of Lynn's, so in addition to dropping some beautiful tunes, we chatted a lot about his life. In addition, we had Lorraine Muller of the Kingpins and Les Hand claps come on the phone to talk about Lynn, as they had done a few projects together as well.
We hope you enjoy this week's podcast!
Until next week,Stay rude, stay rebel,RRR crew
