The trouble with trying to list all the many things a person was qualified at, good at, lived, breathed and emanated is that you're bound to miss some important things off the list. This is how I feel as I start to think about what to say about Duncan Campbell. Duncan, or as he was known, Mr DC, died in Auckland hospital after a brief illness on Monday, July 2nd, 2018. I knew him as a meek, humble, generous, passionate, friendly, caring guy who loved reggae music, in fact all Jamaican music.
Duncan was known and loved as a reggae broadcaster on Auckland's 95bFM, reggae and music writer in RipItUp music magazine and as radio news journalist. He was born in Whangarei but grew up in Auckland. Read a NZ Herald obituary here.

It’s been a tough week for the family and friends of Duncan, I’m sure I don’t need to say that. Flailing a bit here. If only Dunc was here to help me write this. If he was, we’d probably have been sidetracked already… anyhoo….
Lots of flying and crying. Many tunes cranked, glasses raised.
Just want to update you all… at Duncan’s request there will be no funeral.
BUT
In a few weeks there will be a PROPER throw down. Duncan’s family know that there is much to celebrate and are very keen that Duncan is given the send off he so deserves. And celebrate we shall. We will be sure to share the details when they are finalised. There will be laughter and tunes... and speeches too. Pretty sure Dunc would approve (but would pretend that he didn’t).

House Of Shem is an Aotearoa (New Zealand) based harmony trio comprised of Carl Perkins and his two sons Te Omeka Perkins and Isaiah Perkins who are each multi instrumentalist and producers.
It is with much sadness that we bid farewell to Papa Carl Perkins who has died after battling bowel cancer.
The House of Shem guitarist and singer was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer in February, 2017 (three days before his 58th birthday) and died on Wednesday May 9, 2018, two weeks after his most recent surgery.
Papa Carl was a true pioneer and champion of reggae music here in Aotearoa. Thank you Sir. God rest your loving soul.

Here's part one of a two part interview with Messenjah of Reality Chant, an Australasian production team and label. Reality Chant present their latest richly-crafted EP, 'Love vs. War' which showcases two riddims that draw inspiration from 1970s (Augustus Pablo) and the 1980s digital era, accompanied by a line-up of illustrious vocal talent.

Carl Perkins is a New Zealand reggae icon. He's also a husband, a father of 5 sons, a grandfather, and a great grandfather. Perkins started his career as guitarist and songwriter in the legendary band, Herbs. Nowadays he is the rangatira of internationally renowned family band, House Of Shem.
Three days before his 58th birthday on 15 February 2017 Perkins was diagnosed with bowel cancer. One week later following an MRI & CT scan it was confirmed by the consultant that the cancer had advanced and was non-treatable with months to live. Despite this prognosis Perkins will not give up and remains positive.

His EP release in October 2016 ‘Eroded’ (Engineered and Co-produced by Paul Matthews of I Am Giant) went straight to the charts being the highest selling NZ album at #7 on the iTunes album charts, peaking at #2 on the rock album charts, plus he also broke in to the top 50 in the UK iTunes album charts. Jayson will be returning to his home region to open for and appear in the Marley NZ All-Stars.
Set in the beautiful Rhododendron Lawn, and backed by a band that’s the crème of NZ music, this concert’s going be legendary. Concert promoter Jackie Sanders says the NZ All-Stars project brings together some of New Zealand’s finest artists to recognize and celebrate Bob Marley’s legacy.
“It is an honour to be able to celebrate this legend. His music continues to influence and have an impact on our lives. He was a lover and a fighter. His themes of love, family and togetherness still resonate as strongly as his cry for social justice and revolution. This will be a unique and special concert series for New Zealanders.”
Children aged 12 and under are free providing each child is accompanied by a paying adult.

In a bittersweet announcement today, Andrew McManus, the creator and driving force behind New Zealand’s iconic Raggamuffin Music Festival has said that Raggamuffin X, the tenth anniversary of the much-loved people’s festival, will be the final festival in Auckland at The Trusts Arena on Saturday 18 February 2017.
Having commenced in Rotorua in 2008, Raggamuffin captured the imagination of not just New Zealanders but international visitors who have travelled year in year out to enjoy some of the world’s biggest reggae stars including the inaugural line-up of UB40 (full band) Maxi Priest, The Wailers and Arrested Development. The festival has since featured other luminaries including Miss Lauryn Hill, Billy Ocean, Damian, Stephen and Ziggy Marley, Eddy Grant, Jimmy Cliff, Mary J Blige and Ali Campbell.
In making today’s statement McManus said Raggamuffin found its home in New Zealand 10 years ago, filling a major hole in the reggae landscape. “Along with Ali and the other original members of UB40 we all thought it would be a great idea to start a purpose-built reggae festival and the result was the birth of Raggamuffin. The culture and peaceful vibes of the Kiwi people ensured New Zealand was the obvious place to start and home Raggamuffin.”
McManus added that Raggamuffin has been an amazing journey and he was proud it had been an iconic part of New Zealand’s summers for so many years. But, he said, all good things must come to an end and this year’s Raggamuffin Festival will be a celebration of 10 years of love, peace and harmony – the mantra of Raggamuffin which has seen so many great moments and people grace the stage, internationally and locally.
